How to book

On Uber

  1. Open Uber in Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim and pick "Autonomous". UberX and Uber Comfort can also match you with a driverless car.
  2. The app shows the fare before you book.
  3. Live support answers in the app, usually in under a minute. The car may record sound and video.

In the Apollo Go app

  1. Get the Apollo Go app (iOS or Android).
  2. Pick a pickup point. Cars stop only at set bus stations in the zone.
  3. The car waits about a minute. Unlock it by typing the last 4 digits of your phone number on the panel outside the car.

Children under 16 must ride with an adult (Dubai licence rules).

What a ride costs

  • Apollo Go app: free at launch (Mar 2026), then a AED 5 promotional fare from Jul 2026. Dubai Taxi Company says normal taxi fares will apply once the promotion ends. Check the fare in the app.
  • Uber: you pay the fare the app shows, like any Uber ride.

For comparison, a normal Dubai taxi (Oct 2026): AED 5 to start by day (AED 5.50 at night), AED 2.45 a km, AED 12 minimum. Booked in an app, the minimum is AED 13.

  • Open today: Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. Both firms run there, so it is the one place in Dubai where anyone can book a driverless taxi.
  • Testing: WeRide vans drive on public roads in Business Bay and Downtown. WeRide's permit for driverless tests also covers Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Investment Park 2, Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, Wadi Al Safa, Warsan, Ras Al Khor and Al Hamriya Port.
  • Next, says WeRide: Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai International Airport and more of downtown. No date yet.
  • Planned zone: RTA's Autonomous Transport Zone at Al Jaddaf, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City, with robotaxis, robobuses and self-driving abras linked to the Metro. RTA aims to have all of it running by mid-2027.

The numbers so far

RTA's figures for Dubai's robotaxis in Aug 2026:

  • 144 cars, 48 of them in service
  • About 50 rides a day
  • 7,613 rides since launch
  • More than 4 million km driven
  • 97% of riders satisfied

The plans

  • Dubai Taxi Company: more than 1,000 driverless cars by 2030
  • WeRide and Uber: at least 1,200 robotaxis across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Riyadh, as soon as 2027
  • RTA: a quarter of all trips in Dubai autonomous by 2030

Who checks them

  • RTA licenses every self-driving car on Dubai's roads (Law No. 9 of 2023). The operator is liable for damage.
  • Self-driving cars may only use the lanes and zones RTA sets.
  • A 2026 Dubai rule sets three steps: map and data checks, driving with a safety operator, then driving with no one on board. Private cars may use self-driving only in the last step, with RTA's approval.
  • The UAE Cabinet approved a federal law on self-driving vehicles in Sep 2026.

In Abu Dhabi

  • WeRide on Uber: Yas, Saadiyat, Al Reem and Al Maryah, the airport road and, since Feb 2026, Khalifa City, Masdar City, Rabdan and the Corniche to the Grand Mosque. No one on board on Yas Island since Nov 2025.
  • Apollo Go with AutoGo: Yas Island, booked in the AutoGo app.
