Two routes

Route 1: 21 km, 10 stations

Starts at Creek station (Green Line, Al Jaddaf), crosses Dubai Creek, then runs through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor to International City 1. From there it goes on through International City 2 and 3 and Dubai Silicon Oasis to Dubai Academic City.

Route 2: 9 km, 4 stations

Starts at Centrepoint station (Red Line, Al Rashidiya) and runs through Mirdif and Al Warqa'a to International City 1.

The two routes meet at International City 1, so you can change between them there.

The tunnels start at International City 1, 21 m below ground. Tunnel boring machines dig three ways from there: toward Mirdif, toward the Auto Market and toward Al Warsan (International City 2).

The first machine, Al Wugeisha, is 163 m long and weighs over 2,000 tonnes. It digs 13 to 17 m a day, 24 hours a day and six days a week, and once managed 30 m in a day. Its cutter is 9.6 m across; the finished tunnel is 8.5 m inside.

Next to Dubai's driverless zone

The Blue Line runs through Al Jaddaf, Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour. RTA picked those three districts for its Autonomous Transport Zone, where robotaxis, robobuses and self-driving abras are to link to the Metro at Creek station.
