Tesla warranty UAE cover — plate-system-flat with 5 pill states colour-coded (active, foreign, void, custom, expired)

Tesla warranty in the UAE: what’s covered and what voids it

Reviewed June 2026. The terms below are Tesla’s published GCC warranty terms; the live cover state of any specific car is the warranty pill on its detail page.

Most UAE Teslas listed for sale today are still under manufacturer warranty. Across the 248 · listed now · as of Jun 12, 2026 cars we track on the live market, the clear majority of the Model Y cohort sits inside the 4-year basic period, and almost all of them are still inside the 8-year battery and drive-unit window. That is the good news, and it is also the most useful single fact in this market.

The complication starts when the car was not originally sold by Tesla UAE. Tesla’s official policy is that the manufacturer warranty applies only to vehicles originally sold for the GCC region, and that policy is enforced. A meaningful minority of the Model Ys in our index, and most of the Cybertrucks, are non-GCC: those buyers are about to discover what their warranty does and doesn’t cover, often only when something breaks. The point of this post is to make sure you know before you sign.

How much of the UAE Tesla market is still under cover

The Tesla UAE manufacturer warranty is 4 years or 80,000 km on the basic vehicle, whichever comes first, and 8 years or 192,000 km on the battery and drive unit for Long Range and Performance, 160,000 km on Standard Range,. Both clocks start at original delivery date. Cars sold privately or via the secondary market inherit the same clock, warranty transfers with the VIN, not the owner.

For the live UAE inventory, the math comes out roughly like this. A 2022 Model Y (the oldest year well-represented in our index) is now in year 4 of basic cover, typically with a few months left depending on first-delivery date. The battery is fully inside its 8-year window through 2030. A 2023 or 2024 Model Y is fully under both. A 2025 or 2026 Juniper is brand-new on both clocks. For Cybertruck, the index is all 2024-or-newer cars, so basic cover runs through 2028 at minimum for the earliest deliveries.

What we are not telling you with these numbers is the actual cover state on a specific car, that depends on the original spec region, on whether the title is clean, on whether the car has been to an unauthorized service shop, and on a few other things that the PlaidCars detail page surfaces with the warranty pill on each vehicle. The 5 pill states are the next section.

The five warranty states, and what each one means at delivery

PlaidCars surfaces a warranty pill on every Tesla detail page. The pill carries one of five states. Each state is a different answer to the practical question “if this car has a fault tomorrow, who pays?”

Two of the five share the colour red but mean opposite things. Foreign means your warranty exists somewhere else, at Tesla in the original country of sale (US, China, EU, etc.), but Tesla UAE will not honor it locally. Void means the warranty does not exist anywhere, salvage, flood, or major non-Tesla modification destroyed it. Custom (amber) is rarer: PlaidCars has manually flagged a non-standard warranty situation on the specific car, usually because the seller has documented an extended warranty or a Tesla goodwill arrangement.

The 5 warranty states surfaced on every Tesla detail page on PlaidCars.
State What triggers it What to ask the seller
Active GCC-spec car, clean title, inside both warranty clocks, no overrides. The default for most local-retail Teslas in our index. Confirm the first-delivery date in writing, the clock starts then, not on the registration date.
Foreign Non-GCC spec, US, China, Korea, Canada, EU, AU, or other origin. Tesla UAE will service but not cover the cost. The original Tesla warranty in the home market may still exist. Confirm the spec region. Ask for the original purchase documentation. Get an insurance quote in writing, non-GCC carries 15 to 20 percent loading and some underwriters decline outright.
Void Salvage, flood, or modification has broken the original warranty entirely. Tesla UAE will not service it under warranty regardless of spec region. Ask for the accident or salvage history in writing. Cross-check the VIN with the PlaidCars detail page, title-status is one of the fields we flag.
Custom PlaidCars has manually noted a non-default warranty path on this specific car, typically because the seller has provided documentation of an extended warranty or a Tesla goodwill arrangement. Rare in our index. Ask for the extension paperwork. Verify it directly with the issuer, extended warranties from third parties are not the same as Tesla UAE cover.
Expired One or both warranty clocks have run out. Basic at year 4 / 80,000 km; battery + drive unit at year 8 / 192,000 km. For an expired-basic car still inside the battery clock, ask how the high-voltage system has been used (frequent Supercharging in summer accelerates degradation). For fully-expired, the inspection becomes the load-bearing protection, a pre-purchase inspection at a Tesla-experienced shop is non-negotiable.

The pill colour is the buyer’s first signal. The detail under it is what changes whether a price is fair or a trap.

Five things that void cover, listed by how common they actually are

The pattern most buyers underestimate: it is not Tesla that voids the warranty when something obscure happens. It is the buyer’s own decisions about origin, title, and service history that do most of the voiding, and the warranty pill on a detail page is just the structural reading of those decisions.

Non-GCC origin (the biggest one). Roughly one Model Y in six in our index is non-GCC. For Cybertruck the proportion inverts, the import share dominates that pool. Every one of those carries the red Foreign pill. The original Tesla warranty from the home market may still exist on paper, but Tesla UAE will not honor it locally. The deep dive on what this costs and when it makes sense is in our GCC-vs-imports guide; for Cybertruck specifically, see our US-imports analysis.

Salvage or flood title. Rare in our index, but a deal-killer when it shows up. UAE title status follows the original issuance, a US-titled salvage car will carry that status forward. Tesla UAE treats salvage as a voided warranty regardless of spec region. Pay particular attention to flood listings in the wake of UAE rain events; flood damage on EVs is not always visible at handover.

Modification. Custom interiors, lift kits, off-road suspension, anything that changes the original vehicle configuration. Cosmetic wraps usually do not void cover, Tesla allows them. Functional modifications (powertrain remaps via third-party tools, suspension swaps, battery interventions) do. The line is not always obvious; if a car has been “built” rather than just driven, get the modification documentation in writing and check with Tesla UAE service before paying.

Service at an unauthorized shop for warranty-relevant parts. An oil change on a Tesla makes no sense (there is no oil), but the equivalent, high-voltage system work, battery pack interventions, drive-unit service, done outside the Tesla UAE service network will typically void cover on the affected systems. Body and trim work at independents is generally fine.

Out-of-warranty mileage on a basic clock that has not yet expired by date. The basic 4-year / 80,000 km cover runs to whichever comes first. A high-mileage commercial car (taxi, rental fleet retirement, sales-rep daily driver) can blow past 80,000 km in year 2 and have an expired basic warranty even when calendar-year cover is intact. The battery clock is more forgiving (192,000 km) but the same principle applies. Always ask for the current odometer reading in writing before agreeing a price.

If you are shopping non-GCC: what Tesla UAE will and will not do

Non-GCC is the single biggest reason a warranty pill goes red, so it deserves its own section. The economics of buying non-GCC are real (the discount is typically 15 to 25 percent on resale, often more on entry pricing) but the operational reality has four moving parts that buyers consistently underestimate.

Service: yes, with a bill. Tesla UAE service centers do not turn US-spec or Chinese-spec or Korean-spec Teslas away from the bay. They will diagnose, service, and repair the car. They will bill the owner at full rate, route warranty-relevant parts through the EMEA parts network (often with owner-paid shipping), and decline any claim against the manufacturer warranty for the issue. For a routine annual service the difference is small; for a drive-unit replacement or a battery pack intervention, the cost lands in the territory of a small hatchback.

Trade-in: declined. Tesla UAE does not accept non-GCC vehicles on trade against a new Tesla UAE purchase. If your exit strategy involves Tesla UAE’s own trade-in flow, this rules it out.

Insurance: loaded, sometimes declined. Several UAE underwriters quote non-GCC at 15 to 20 percent above the GCC equivalent. Others, particularly for unusual title categories or newer model classes like Cybertruck, decline outright. Get the insurance quote in writing before paying for the car. A surprise decline at delivery is a recoverable problem; a surprise decline two weeks later is a much worse one.

Resale: discounted, narrower buyer pool. Non-GCC Teslas resell at a typical 15 to 25 percent discount to GCC-spec equivalents. The discount compounds with mileage and time, and it traps the owner inside the same buyer pool that the original seller was trying to escape, re-export agents and a small enthusiast minority. If you plan to flip the car inside 18 months, model the resale floor against your purchase discount carefully.

None of this means a non-GCC purchase is wrong, for a small set of buyers (those who never use a Supercharger, never need warranty service, or are buying to re-export), the math holds. For most buyers, the GCC-spec is the disciplined buy when supply exists, even at the premium.

Tesla warranty in the UAE, asked directly

Does the Tesla warranty transfer to a second owner in the UAE?

Yes, on a GCC-spec car the warranty follows the VIN, never the owner, and both clocks keep running from the original delivery date. Confirm that first-delivery date in writing, because the registration date can sit months later and the difference is cover you thought you had.

Will Tesla UAE honor the warranty on a US-spec or other imported Tesla?

No. Tesla UAE services imports at the bay and bills the owner; the manufacturer warranty applies only to vehicles originally sold for the GCC region. The original home-market warranty may exist on paper, but it is not honored locally, which is most of why imports trade at a discount.

What actually voids a Tesla warranty here?

In order of how often we see it: non-GCC origin, a salvage or flood title, functional modifications, and high-voltage or drivetrain work done outside the Tesla network. Cosmetic wraps and body work at independents generally do not void cover.

How long is the Tesla battery warranty in the UAE?

Eight years, with a 70 percent capacity floor: 192,000 km on Long Range and Performance, 160,000 km on Standard Range. The basic vehicle warranty is 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever arrives first, and high-mileage cars hit the kilometer ceiling well before the calendar one.

Is a Tesla with an expired warranty worth buying?

Often yes, priced correctly. Many expired-basic cars still sit inside the battery clock, which covers the expensive part, and the protection that replaces the warranty is the inspection: read the car in Service Mode, check the heat-pump history, and price what you find.
