Architect & Location of DUMA: Floating on Historic Dubai Creek
DUMA will dramatically “float” above the waters of Dubai Creek, the city’s iconic natural saltwater inlet. Elevated on a circular platform extending over the creek, it offers an immersive waterfront setting with stunning views of the skyline and surrounding nature. This location pays homage to Dubai’s maritime roots while integrating seamlessly with the urban environment.
Architectural Masterpiece by Tadao Ando
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando (1995 laureate), DUMA embodies minimalist elegance inspired by the sea, pearls, and Dubai’s pearling legacy. The five-story building features flowing white concrete walls with triangular windows that spiral upward, resembling a pearl rising from the water. A central circular skylight bathes the interiors in natural light, evoking a pearl’s glow, while full-height glazing on the top floor leads to a sheltered outdoor terrace. Ando’s hallmark integration of light, shadow, space, and nature creates serene, human-centered environments, echoing his acclaimed works like Japan’s Chichu Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas. Sustainability and harmony with the environment are core to the design.
